In the sections below, I will walk through the rapid design process for the Zumo app. Unlike a full-scale overhaul, this project focused on improving core user flows within a strict three-day timeframe, without access to business goals or analytics. To ensure design decisions were data-driven, I conducted quick usability tests on the app’s key flows, identifying major usability issues and pain points. This helped refine navigation, simplify the interface, and strengthen brand design.
As a result, the usability index increased by 37%, and user satisfaction rose by 44%.
While this was a rapid redesign, my more comprehensive case studies include a full-cycle redesign of Domclick, a real estate platform with 15 million users, and the creation of Petset, an award-winning app with 100,000 downloads.
This case study explores the design of a seamless fiat currency exchange feature (GBP, USD, EUR) for the Zumo app. The goal is to create an intuitive and user-friendly exchange flow while maintaining regulatory compliance. The feature enhances Zumo’s role as a proof of concept in the regulated crypto market.
Zumo is a cryptocurrency wallet that supports two cryptocurrencies and offers exchange, deposit, and withdrawal functionality. The current UI appears outdated and has an overly complex architecture, making navigation less intuitive for users. The new fiat exchange feature provides an opportunity to modernize the interface and improve overall usability.
For a real-world project, I would align with stakeholders, review analytics, and conduct user tests on the current flow to identify pain points. I analyzed leading financial and crypto exchange apps to identify best practices and user expectations. Key insights included:
This research influenced both the visual design and the user flow for the fiat exchange feature, focusing on simplicity and clarity while aligning with user expectations:
While working on the exchange section, I realised it would be more convenient for users to have their total balance and portfolio visible on the main screen, along with quick access to exchange and additional information.
To achieve this, I propose moving Smartfolio, Exchange, and Sent to the main screen and removing the tab bar.
On your first visit, the app focuses on adding funds to your account and learning how to invest.
Clicking the Exchange button on the main screen opens a modal bottom sheet with exchange options, allowing quick access to swap one currency for another while displaying the available balances for both.
Clicking on the fiat currency or crypto-currency takes us to this screen.
